If you’re here then one way or another you’re probably considering getting breast enhancement surgery. There are a lot of myths surrounding it, so I decided to try clear up as many questions that’s been bugging me about breast plastic surgery – and whether it’s a good idea to contact a breast surgeon in Malaysia to undergo the procedure.
Chances are you’ve also heard a few not-so-nice things about it, such as the heightened chances of breast cancer, connective tissue disease and breast-feeding difficulties. There’s also the social stigma. Last but not least, women worry that the results of the surgery will not be up to expectation.
Types of Breast Enhancement Surgeries that a Breast Surgeon in Malaysia can perform.
1. Saline and Silicone Implants.
Most of us would be familiar with breast implants, which is the surgical insertion of round silicone pieces (either filled with saline or silicone gel) into the area under the muscle tissue in the chest (sub-muscular) or over it (sub-glandular) to enlarge and shape the breasts.
Placement of implants for the most natural look.
Where the implants are placed is important as it helps define the shape. The best procedure depends on the composition of an individual’s breasts tissue. Women who have little breast tissue should get the implants sub muscular. Without the needed breast tissue to cover them the implants would stick out like balls and look very unnatural.
Sub-muscular placement also places added pressure onto the implants which compresses it slightly on the top. This gives implants a better slope, which looks more natural. This is particularly helpful for those who opt for saline implants, which are stiffer than silicone gel. There are tear-shaped implants that have this slope but are not mostly not recommended.

Muscle movement causing sub-muscularly placed implants to shift and deform.
However, sub-muscular placement has its share of disadvantages – it is prone to getting distorted and deformed when the muscles move. It could also cause some initial physical discomfort but which should disappear after some time.
Sub-glandular placements (over the muscle) are mostly able to avoid this issue. Placing the implants over the muscle also benefit from being able to conform more naturally to the shape of the breast itself and not the pressure from the muscle tissue pressing down on it. For this reason, women who body build should definitely opt for sub-glandular implant placement.
Capsular contractures affecting Sub-glandular placements.
However, sub-glandular placements can cause capsular contractures, which is scarring of breast tissue around the implant. This can change how the breast feels and looks like, as well as causing some discomfort as the tissue tightens.
Doctors don’t know the exact cause of capsular contractures, but there are methods that can reduce the chances of it happening, including using textured implants, ensuring that the implant is only removed from its packaging only at the point of insertion and handled with the strictest aseptic techniques to keep it clean.
Sub-glandularly placed implants can also present a physical interference with mammography cancer monitoring. Along with women have dense breast tissue it is best that they undergo additional mammogram screenings.
Both saline and silicone gel implants need replacement over time.
However, both types of implants will wear out over time and either need to be removed or replaced. Worn implants could potentially rupture, leading to lopsided or even deformed looking breasts. While saline fillings are absorbed safely into the body, silicone gel ruptures can cause pain or tenderness, tingling, swelling, numbness, burning, or changes in sensation.
To make things worse, most silicone gel ruptures show no other symptoms (known as silent ruptures) – and are hard to detect (see this link for a full list of complications when breast implants fail).
2. Autologous Fat Breast Augmentation.
Also known as fat grafting or natural breast augmentation, autologous fat breast augmentation this method involves the transfer of fat cells from somewhere else of the body (typically the tummy) to enhance the size of breasts. As you’ve probably guessed, the advantage of this method is that you’re not inserting a foreign object into your body.
Because fat is removed through liposuction it has the added benefit of reducing fat in areas where it isn’t wanted and to where it is. A lot of things have to be done to slow down the reabsorption of fat cells back into the body and increase its chances of survival after transfer, but the benefits make autologous fat breast augmentation worth considering.
More natural form of breast enhancement.
For one, autologous fat transfer augmentation doesn’t cause problems with breast feeding. It is also the most natural, both in terms of how it looks and how it behaves physically. You don’t have to worry about the implants shifting if you’re active and, while the fat cells will eventually be reabsorbed by the body – they won’t ever wear out or rupture, and thus making emergency removal or replacement unnecessary.
Despite the advantages, there are a few major problems. Fat cells that fail to pick up a blood supply will die, causing them to form solid fibrotic lumps. Oil contained within the cells later form cysts. It’s a good thing that MRI or mammogram scans can easily tell cysts and fibrotic tissue from cancers. The other disadvantage with autologous fat breast augmentation is that it’s not capable of increasing the size of the breast as much as implants can. You can only expect, at most, a one or one–and-a-half cup size at most.
Regardless, a breast surgeon in Malaysia should be able to provide all types of breast plastic surgery treatments. Just be sure to check their credentials and, preferably, pick one who has at least a few years of experience to prevent any unnecessary complications. Good luck!
